Madison Beach Hotel General Manager John Mathers and his wife, Melissa, have long been proud to call Madison home. Their connection to the community was recently celebrated in a meaningful way when the couple received the 2026 inaugural Elizabeth Skinner Platt Citizenship Award, presented by the Madison Historical Society.
This award recognizes Madison residents for outstanding civic contributions and a demonstrated commitment to the community. For John and Melissa, the honor is especially meaningful given their longstanding ties to the town and continued involvement in the place they call home.
As general manager of Madison Beach Hotel, John’s connection to Madison extends beyond his own neighborhood. Under his leadership, the hotel has embraced its role as a community gathering place, welcoming residents throughout the year for dining, celebrations, special events and holiday traditions.
The award also reflects the Mathers’ personal commitment to giving back and being active members of their community.
“Melissa and I are especially grateful for all the people that have enabled us to do the things for which we’re being recognized. This includes the Duques family and all our colleagues and co-workers at the Madison Beach Hotel, Distinctive Hospitality Group, and the Madison Country Club,” said John Mathers.
Founded in 1917, the Madison Historical Society has spent more than a century preserving and sharing the town’s history. The organization collects and protects historically significant objects, documents and stories on behalf of Madison residents while helping connect today’s community with the people and places that shaped it.
The Elizabeth Skinner Platt Citizenship Award continues that spirit by recognizing those who are contributing to Madison’s story today.
